Will my dental implant surgery hurt?

When patients come to our Westwood dental office for dental implants, they often feel anxiety about the surgical part of the procedure. After all, placing an implant screw into the jawbone sounds painful, right? Actually, the bone does not contain many nerve endings that trigger pain and patients are often surprised how painless dental implant surgery is and how quickly they recover.

As with any type of surgical procedure, some inflammation and bruising might occur, but it is usually mild and disappears quickly.

The dental implant itself is made of titanium and is designed to integrate with your natural bone through a process called osseointegration, which essentially means that your dental implant post and bone fuse together. This is why dental implants provide such great results for our patients.

If you still feel nervous about dental implant surgery, we also offer sedation dentistry options to make your treatment both comfortable and worry-free. We use oral medication that will not only help you relax, but it can also mimimize the actual memory of the procedure. Many of our patients who feel anxious about dentistry appreciate this option for comfortable dentistry.
