Will my new dentures move?

The fit of your dentures depends on your bone structure and shape of your mouth. The fit may also change over time or with weight loss or weight gain. Most dentures are durable and you can expect them to fit well and remain functional for between 5-8 years, depending on your health and medical conditions.

We strive to create dentures that fit well and function properly. When patients have difficulty with ill-fitting dentures, we offer a few alternatives.

Soft reline – In most cases, we do this in our Westwood, NJ dental office. A reline can improve fit and reduce denture sores. It’s not a fix-all but may offer temporary relief.

Hard reline – A hard reline requires a dental lab and will actually change the physical base of the denture that comes into contact with your gums. We strive to make this happen fast so you don’t have to live without teeth.

New dentures – Eventually, new dentures will be necessary. This is great news because you will likely find the fit more comfortable.

Implant-supported dentures – For patients who want their dentures to stay put without compromise, dental implants can lock dentures in place. They will remain stable until you release them for cleaning.
