Trinity Dental Care

What can I expect during a dental cleaning?

If it has been a while since your last cleaning and you’re ready to make a dental appointment with your Westwood, NJ dentist, here is what you can expect from your dental cleaning appointment.

Evaluation – Everyone is different and may require different types of dental cleanings to improve their oral health and eliminate periodontal disease. Your hygienist will identify any pockets between teeth and gums, along with any bleeding points that may indicate an infection.

The amount of tartar on your teeth will also help us determine the proper dental cleaning for you. If it has been a long time, more than one appointment may be necessary to help you catch up.

Scaling – Scaling sounds like a scary word, but it really just means removing tartar from teeth. We accomplish this with an ultrasonic cleaner that removes tartar with a thin jet of warm water and handheld instruments.

Polish – Using a fine dental paste and a handheld instrument, our hygienist will polish away any remaining tartar and remove surface stains from the teeth.

X-Rays – We will often take x-rays at your hygiene appointment in order to identify decay or any other oral conditions since your last visit.

If it is time for your next dental cleaning and you live in the Westwood area, contact Trinity Dental Care for a truly personalized experience.
