Will Invisalign work for my teen?
Invisalign works well for most patients looking to improve the appearance or comfort of their teeth by correcting misalignment. Invisalign is also great for patients who have suffered from orthodontic relapse.
Invisalign is typically recommended for older teen and adult patients with one or more of the following issues:
Gaps between teeth
Overlapping or crooked teeth
For some complex cases, traditional orthodontics may provide better results.
Invisalign works by using clear plastic aligner trays to gently nudge teeth into alignment with gentle pressure. Many patients find Invisalign preferable to brackets and wires because they are removable, do not irritate the soft gum tissue inside your cheeks, and because it is easy for patients to care for their teeth.
When growth has stopped, in the older teen years, Invisalign treatment becomes possible. It is important when choosing orthodontic treatment that you are confident that your teen will comply with treatment recommendations by wearing their aligner trays for about 22 hours per day. Other than eating, brushing, and flossing, trays should be worn.
As with all types of orthodontics, retainer use after treatment will be necessary to prevent teeth from drifting and ruining your investment.
