How does laser dentistry work?
Laser dentistry replaces the traditional cutting and stitching of the gums for periodontal treatment, a frenectomy, gingival contouring, or when prepping the gums for veneers or a crown.
Rather than a blade, we use laser light energy to alter gum tissue and seal it simultaneously. This reduces bleeding, which is common with traditional surgery. Laser surgery heals faster and with less discomfort, which our patients love. It also eliminates the need for stitches in many cases.
Periodontal treatment – removing diseased tissue and promoting healing with laser dentistry
Frenectomy – addressing a tongue-tie or a large frenum (connecting tissue between the upper gums and lip) by removing excess tissue
Gingival contouring – changing the shape of the gums either for esthetics on its own or when placing veneers
Crown prep – removing some of the tissue around the base of the crown for a secure fit
Canker sores and cold sores – Lasers can also speed along the healing process and reduce pain for cold sores and canker sores.
